CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) was raised in the July 27, 1939 as Crown Representative Police. CRPF has been tasked with maintenance of Internal Security of the nation having multifarious duties which include fighting insurgency in the North East, combating terrorists in the Jammu & Kashmir, tackling Left Wing Extremists in Central India and maintaining communal harmony all over the country.

Western Sector HQ, CRPF oversees the deployment of force in the state of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Daman, Diu, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli. As of now, five CRPF units are deployed for counter insurgency operations in the State of Maharashtra and two RAF (Rapid Action Force) units- one each in Maharashtra and Gujarat are available for tackling only Law & Order situation. They are always ready to rush at short notice in aid of State Govt to deal with emergent communal flare ups, riots, crowd control, elections, religious mela like Kumbh & Ganpati festival etc.  In the past, CRPF have done creditably well to counter 26/11 terrorist’s attack in Mumbai and rescue efforts during natural calamities.

 After Independence, the force was renamed as Central Reserve Police Force by an Act of Parliament on December 28, 1949. IG, WS, CRPF was the State Force Coordinator designated by the Directorate CRPF, New Delhi, during Assembly Election in Gujarat -2017 (On 09/12/2017 & 14/12/2017) tasked with coordinating the movement of forces, deployment of troops and other logistic arrangements. The onerous task of time bound mobilization and deployment of CAPF was accomplished successfully by the sector and the elections were held peacefully.

A transparent and empathetic administration is being ensured in the sector. A proper grievance redressal system has been put in place. The Sector is striving to attain new heights for the organization and the country.
